Last winter Kathy Fenske and I set out to find other artists to come with us to Tours, France. We were working within the Minneapolis Sister City Organization and at the same time we were active with the Twin Cities Urban Sketchers and Minnesota Center for Book Arts. In all, five of us committed to the project—with a mission to connect with other sketchers and to document the architecture and daily life of Tours, which is in the Loire Valley, about 75 miles south west of Paris. The other 3 American artists were: Richard Stephens, CB Sherlock, Cris Franchevich. Below are a few of my sketches.
From June 1-5 we were lucky to meet many accomplished French sketchers: Tula Moraes, Allex Hillkurtz, and Nicolas came from Paris, François Caplan and Frédéric Dégranges from Orléans, and a strong group from Tours—Mireille Bachelier, Mélanie Ménard King, and Bridgette among other children and adults from our homestays. A big thanks to our main artist Stéphane Prévot and organizer of the Tours Urban Sketchers. Patrice-Alain Gauron and Anne Guéniot from the Tours/Minneapolis Organization were instrumental in helping with all the details, getting us set up with homestay families and and making us feel welcomed in this beautiful city.
